Advance your wax journey by learning how to build up wax to create beautiful gemstone setting for cabochon or faceted stones.

This is an intensive course, designed to significantly move you on with your abilities to create more advanced designs for gemstones. Using relaxed, fun and enjoyable methods, this course is packed with tips and tricks to help you get the best out of your wax work practice.

You will learn to make bezel settings to hold cabochon stones with claws and without for a rub over setting style and tapered bezel settings for faceted gemstones. You will also learn to make and add on decorative smaller side stones in bezels. It covers a lot of advanced work and is great value for money. I teach this regularly in person and I only ever get great feedback, most students taking this course are generally working wax jewellers or hobbyists that wish to move on from basic carving and it has helped them considerably move on with better pieces or collections.

This style of modelling is particularly good for one of a kind pieces with iregular sized stones.

You will learn to make a simple ring band and how to attach ring bands to your work as well as how to make and attach bails for earrings and pendants. There are some handy close up practice tips for any trickier techniques.

There is also a short video that takes you through the equipment for this course, most of which wax workers will already have so the equipment layout cost should be really low.

This course is advanced and not for beginners, it understood that you have a good pre knowledge of the basics of wax carvings, sizing, how a gemstone should sit and also have enough experience to confidently finish off your work after casting.

You will cast yourself or outsource to a casting house, there is no casting tuition in this course and no gem setting tuition either, though there is a video that goes over ways that these gems might be set and what a gem setter may expect of the setting in order to successfully set it, so that you have a good understanding of why you making the settings in a certain way.

Your teacher will be available at all times during your course by e mail to answer any queries or help in any way.

Enjoy the course and please send me any pics of pieces that you make.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

My name is Eran Naylor and I am a self taught goldsmith, designer and teacher. I have my own label, a working studio in Melbourne and also run a jewellery school. I started making jewellery 20 odd year ago and have progressed from there as creating jewellery became more and more of a passion.

I started off beading and wire wrapping, progressed to saw piercing and them onto wax work, teaching myself to solder along the way. I am proof that you can make it on your own and work it out as you go but I made a lot of mistakes along the way with no internet or short classes that are available today. With these classes I aim to help you avoid those same mistakes.

I started teaching five years ago after helping a few friends with their skills and realised how much I have to offer, especially in wax work. Over a thousand students later, I have expanded the course range and now offer you these courses online to practice at home anywhere in the world.

I continue to work now as a bespoke goldsmith and miss the days when I had time to just sit for hours playing with wax. This is the best way to learn. I find that teaching and helping others fills that creative gap fo me now and is so enjoyable that it more than gives back. It gives me great pleasure to see others enjoying creating. All of my students know that I love nothing more than talking jewellery and am always available to help.

I hope that you enjoy your journey and I would be honoured to be a part of that along the way.
